DIY: How to make a Flower Crown - Tutorial

Flower crowns are everywhere this season! I really like the concept - they just ooze hippy-boho chic & calls on the wearer to release their inner free-spirit! However, I just never thought I could pull one off. They generally come with very large flowers and with my annoyingly flat hair I feared that I would end up looking like a bride had misplaced her bouquet on the top of my head! That is... until I found this mulberry rose crown on Nastygal.com. I love how the roses are small and spread a part - a much more subtle and wearable take on the flower crown and perfect for anyone who wants to try the trend but has a chronic fear (like me) of looking, dare I say.. ridiculous? costumey? try-hardy?

Anyway... I had this beauty in my shopping cart waiting for me to check out. But like always I skimmed through the entire site (for probably the 4th time), just in case I missed something and by the time I returned to said shopping cart it was SOLD OUT! I scoured the internet and alas... no luck... sold out everywhere else too!

And then a brilliant idea... why don't I make it myself?! So, off to Lincraft I went! And stocked up on craft goodies, glue, tape and with no idea how this was going to turn out attempted my very first fashion DIY! Overall, I am happy with the result and turns out you can make yourself a pretty decent flower crown for a fraction of the price!

1. Lots of small silk roses.
2. Floral wire.
3. Brown or green floral tape.
4. Wire cutters.
5. Super glue or Glue gun (optional).

Total Cost: Less than $10 - whoo hoo!

Step 1: Start by making a circle the size of your head with the wire (I had to attach two wires together so it would be long enough for my unusually large head). Twist the ends to create a hook-and-eye clip and don't forger to cover the twisted wire with floral tape to avoid scratching and pulling.

Step 2: With the wire cutters to cut the stems one inch below the flower.

Step 3: Attach the flowers to the wire one by one with the floral tape several times until it is secure. Remember to work backwards so that each new flower is covering the stem of the one before it.

Step 4: Continue this all the way down to the hook, and then start on the other side, attaching the flowers in the other direction.

Step 5: Tape and super glue any loose ends.

Step 6 (optional): Put on your flower crown and dance around the room like a free-spirit!

What do you think?
